settled compass

how we live with the scars
like a river through a worn landscape
and how we display our crevices
depends on how we reflect the radiance
cast upon our shadow

show me your armour
the thick of the maille
little cracks in the corners
that spin tales of movement
and i'll know the battles
you fought in the valiant of existence

but then
all of us were broken
treading lightly
to not chip the stones
rushing headlong
through the cool spray

but now
the compass needle settled
and the light illumination
just short of blushing flares

you still have to look up
and you still have to look down
to find the path
where you can burn down the thicket
that covered your comfort
